This is an original hand-colored botanical print of Loasa lateritia from Joseph Paxton's Magazine of Botany, published May 1, 1838. Paxton began his career as an assistant gardener with no formal training and worked his way up to become the Head Gardener to the Duke of Devonshire. Later, he designed the massive Crystal Palace for the London Exhibition of 1851 — and was subsequently knighted for his efforts. The Magazine of Botany is best known for its bright, colorful illustrations of orchids and other exotic flowering plants.

Overall excellent, with vibrant original hand coloring, on paper that is a creamy antique white color.
